Fernanda Coelho Liberali has a PhD in Applied Linguistics from the Post-graduate Program of Applied Linguistics, the Pontific Catholic University of São Paulo, where she has worked as Associated Professor and researcher since 2000. She was the Brazilian representative for the International Society for Cultural and Activity Research (2009-2011). She acts as a consultant for the Secretariat of Education of the City of São Paulo, which involves with the thirteen Regional Directories including 545 Elementary schools and 8 High schools. Together with Cecília Magalhães, she is coordinates the Research Group Linguagem em Atividade no Contexto Escolar. She also organizesa Study Group on School Management (Grupo de Estudos sobre Gestão)and another on Bilingual Education (Grupo de Estudos sobre Educação Bilíngue). She coordinates the Acting as Citizens Program (Projeto Ação Cidadã) which encompasses 4 major subprojects: Reading and Writing in Different Areas Project (at one State School); Learn-Play (with 30 nurseries schools, in a joint work with the the Secretariat of Education of the City of São Paulo); Multiple Worlds Project (which includes virtual exchanges, a forum, a conference and a cultural event, gathering students, teachers, coordinators, principals, parents, teacher educators, researchers from different social ranks and institutions); and the Multicultural Education Project (with lessons in English and French for kids, teens and adults from economically deprived communities). In a socio-historical-cultural perspective, her extramural, consultancy and research concerns are related to school management, teachers’ and teacher educators’ development, teaching-learning issues, literacy, citizenship education, multicultural education and argumentation. She holds a fellowship from Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico. She has published articles, books, chapters and presented in conferences both in Brazil and abroad.
